This is a report on the 20th Earth Day event held at Maruyama Zoo (Sapporo, Hokkaido).

We participated in the 20th Earth Day in Maruyama Zoo (Sapporo, Hokkaido) on June 20th (Saturday) as “International Resonance of World Peace,” with a “PR Exhibit.”

We assisted with the experience booth together with members of “Peace Friends.”

At the experience booth, we held a WPPC (World Peace Peace Campaign) with over 500 visitors. Visitors drew flag cards and then attached miniature flags (193 countries + 47 spares) corresponding to the flags on a world map made of styrofoam. They then placed these flags on the map while saying “peace” in the language of the country represented by the flag. This game-like WPPC was conducted by members led by Mr. and Mrs. Yoshida for the past 10 years.

Because it was at a zoo, children happily participated, and all 260 gifts—world maps in various languages, peace dolls, and origami cranes—were gone by 2:30 PM, making for a very satisfying event.
